Free Maintenance Management Software
In the early '90s, the cost of IT companies irrationally increased, because of the outcry that would be the panacea for all business problems. After the dotcom crash, companies drastically reduced their capital spending on IT investment. Currently, the cost for any installation requires an approach to project management involving different functions and, in some cases, this goes to extremes of hiring consultants to present the business case for IT spending.
At the same time, software vendors have proliferated. They provided the software for all types of industries, both as a stand-alone packages or end-to-end. The initial exuberance and proliferation faded after the dotcom crash. Many software companies simply went bankrupt, bringing the drying up of venture capital. Other consolidated basis for the total package, and the rest were acquired by large IT companies.
The large ERP and EAM solutions suppliers are out of reach for small and medium enterprises. Moreover, the cost of these solutions for small businesses is not justified. Consequently, SMEs go for stand-alone applications that are not expensive.
MMS software packages have different features to manage the resources in their useful life. Small businesses that have limited budgets may choose suppliers that offer the necessary applications. Readymade software applications are available online as a demo, freeware and shareware. Software vendors allow certain products to download for free for a certain period of time, usually a month, after which the customer is satisfied if the application can be bought.
Freeware and shareware at times can be implemented for the management of maintenance function. The freeware is a given sample, in the hope that a customer will purchase the software later. So, there is no free lunch ....
