Affiliate programs are pwned by Google

There's a lively discussion Cost Per News about bloggers, affiliate marketing, and if the two do not meet.

It all started with the thesis of Sam Harrelson, "bloggers are the new affiliates?". He asks Sam bloggers have a long tail again. I think it is something, but I think this question could have just as well have been asked some years ago.

This is when I started focusing on recruiting affiliates bloggers, particularly those monetize their blogs with BlogAds at the time.

In any case, the blogger as affiliate problem was a continuation of a previous discussion on the cost for news to work the long tail.

There was a good point there by Jeff Doak of Kowabunga! Technology:

"I have said repeatedly that until the first affiliate marketing is as easy as AdSense, there will be no problem with bloggers who adopt the model."

I would say that two of the most reputable affiliate programs out there are Amazon.com and eBay, and both are doing some interesting things that make it easier for bloggers to promote them as is to run Google AdSense ads.

In a recent interview with the Affiliate Thing show, Gene Kavner, Former World-Wide Director of Amazon Associates Program, described Amazon Omakase Links for affiliates:

"Omakase links is another innovation that Amazon has done recently, where you can virtually put a small piece of code on your site, and an announcement of Amazon will, and will be based on a product not only the end of the content from your website, but also on what visitors are typically seen on other sites, and what they've bought from Amazon in the past, for example. So Amazon makes a decision to place an ad that generates the most revenue for the ' affiliate based on who the customer is, and what the site is that they usually visit. "

eBay also has a connection for the loyal AdSense, as explained on the show recently Affiliate Thing by Lily Shen, senior manager of eBay's affiliate program the United States:

"We're actually trying to launch in the first half of 2007 is likely a product called AdContext, which is a product of contextual advertising that will allow our affiliates and publishers to take down a code and put the product on the site, and we basically call content from the site and size up the largest number of listings that will help our members be more effective. We are currently in beta mode right now. "

I think working on the long tail should be automatic for every affiliate manager, and just like Amazon.com and eBay are doing, the tools should be made available to affiliates to make the entry into affiliate marketing as easy as possible .......
