What to See in Madrid in 3 Days (Part III)
I have assumed that three days in Madrid is a weekend, so, in this last day propose to go to another corner of the iconic Spanish capital: the Rastro. This market is held only on Sundays throughout the morning. The best way to get? By subway, specifically line 5 stops in Puerta de Toledo, allowing us to see another famous gate of Madrid. This monument was built by Ferdinand VII in the first third of the nineteenth century and was one of the entrances to the city. Alternatively, take subway line 3 and get off at Glorieta of Ambassadors, where you can begin to see the Trail along the banks of Tanners. All surrounding streets become a large market: object exchange areas (cards, collectible items ...), spaces dedicated to craftsmanship and restoration; paraditas clothing and fruit shelves with pictures ... Similarly, the shops around too often open to offer their products.
The heart of the Rastro is Cascorro Square, where there are many places to sit and have a snack at a good price. Some of the covers that you can find are potato salad, sardines or salmon toast, among others. A local example is Los Caracoles, where, as is evident, its specialty is snails.
Cascorro above, if we keep going, we can see the background the Plaza Mayor, an area with many tapas bars also typical. In addition, as there are Sundays in the vicinity of the Plaza Mayor's fair to stamp and coin collectors of stamps, coins and banknotes. In it you will also find cigars cigar, old stamps and postcards tenth in a very typical characteristic of the city of Madrid.
The Plaza Mayor Philip III had it built, and the main building is home to the Bakery, which has a frescoed façade. The most characteristic feature is that when sounded the hour, quarter or half hour instead of the classical tone, sounds like an operetta. Nearby you can find many apartments in central Madrid to stay during your stay.
And if you're still hungry or have not sat down to eat anything after the trail, another typical thing is to sit down to taste the famous squid sandwich, which you can find in most bars and restaurants in the area, though often prices are a bit alarming because of the presence of tourists, so we must try to find the least crowded or tourist. It is also logical that if you sit in a square terraces ask anything you will not be cheap, but worth it in the summer.
It is emphasized that the main square at Christmas is filled with stalls selling Christmas decorations, such as the Fira de Santa Llúcia of Barcelona. Do not hesitate if you plan to visit the Palza Christmas holidays in Madrid.
