American Beauty o In Search of Lost Time

One of the most interesting films of the past 20 years is American Beauty. The story revolves around the life of Lester Burnham, a public relations tired of his life and his work. This seemingly harmless situation is turning into a tragedy when Lester falls in love with Angela, a friend of his daughter and twenty years younger than him. From that tiny and forbidden emotion, Lester begins to confront his own current situation, becoming, for the first time in years, the owner of his own destiny. Quit your job, try to win back his wife, seeks friendship with his daughter, beginning an exercise regimen and begins to consume recreational drugs.

However, the film takes poetic piping because of the past Lester showing love with his wife. This is a photograph in which Lester, his wife Carolyn and his daughter Jane, hugging enjoy a night on the rides. The time Carolyn has made an ambitious real estate broker, obsessed with self-help courses and find the perfect rose. The metaphors are repeated: When Angela Lester dreams, sees rose petals surrounded by perfect. Angela Is an attempt to recover the wife Carolyn was? Using the metaphor of the rose, suggests that it is. Meanwhile, Carolyn has an affair with Buddy Kane, a real estate broker egocentric.

When Lester learns of the infidelity of his wife, can not be bothered or depressed, is glad. When Lester lets go to Carolyn, his obsession with Angela disappears and instead the girl, played by Mena Suvari impressive, Lester decides to conquer. By the time Lester has her way with Angela, has already lost interest in it. He has already lost his wife: it was then and now.

The making of American Beauty-level plot is comparable to a Baroque cathedral, in which the symbols are repeated and are opposed to each other. The humor that runs through the work, to appreciate the symbols in the eye, as friends we've known for a while. Thus, the work accomplished in a Macdonalds Lester, contrasts with the ambitious realtors. The gay couple whose neighbors turn out to be healthier than the traditional family that moves into the block. The Lester and Ricky breaks (the son of his neighbor) remind us that even at 40 or 50 years, we remain the same, with the same ability to have fun and love. When Lester is identified with Ricky, the latter ends insulting Angela, seeing in her ugliness that Lester, with more experience, is unable to see. Lester is more mature and wise observer and yet Ricky Ricky is able to see beauties that are not of this world, but to inhabit it.

Filled symbols, humor and tragedy, American Beauty is a film for the story, which is able to portray the magic of life that sometimes seems to fade with time.
