Ayurveda: The Five Elements - Ether
Ayurveda not want to understand the five elements is impossible, because you can say is probably the most important factor in this medication because without them it is impracticable to do so. Forms represent liquid, solid, bright, soft and ethereal matter that make up the outer world of experience, including the physical body. The 5 elements themselves are also manifestations of ideas. So we can say that the ether manifests the idea of connections to allow switching between all the material, communication and self expression.
Just as our bodies are made up of trillions of cells, each one of us is a small cell in the universal body.
Everything that exists outside the universe has its counterpart in their own individual inner world to be.
The Rishis (old masters) used the theory of the 5 elements to explain how internal and external forces are linked together.
These elements operate at two levels, the subtle and physical. A subtle level of experience in the mind or the state of sleep and physical level we experience in physical matter.
The 5 main elements are:
Ether-air-fire-water-land.
Today we will talk about the first element and the most subtle ether.
The ether
The ether element, called "akasha" in Sanskrit, is the first of the five great elements (pancha mahabhutus). Often referred to as "space" is the essence of emptiness.
It is the original item. The origin of the ether is Shabd. Shabda is primordial, unmanifested form of sound.
The sound and ether are inseparable. Because of their intimate relationship, the ear is regarded as the sense organ associated with the element ether, and the voice (mouth) is its organ of action. Hearing loss and loss of voice are difficulties often due to corruption of the ether element in the body.
Through this movement becomes air, which is nothing else than the idea of movement inherent in the idea of space.
The ether is light, because it lacks the heaviness created by the earth element and the element water. The ether is stationary, because it lacks the propulsive nature of the air. The ether is subtle because it lacks the deep presence of the most obvious. Ether is also omnipresent. It's everywhere. It is the substratum of all other elements are derived. Ether is a part of all the other elements. Within any aspect of creation, you can find the ether. The ether is the most expansive of the elements. Without shape or borders, no limits ether.
The ether creates the space for other items to fill it.
The mind is composed of ether. Formless and almost impossible to contain. While the mind is easily disturbed, ether represents the substrate on which the thoughts and emotions wander at will. The Sattvic or balanced mind is an expression of the essence of ether. In the body, the ether is expressed in the blanks. The hollow of the empty intestines, blood vessels, bladder and lungs are filled with ether.
In the cycle of life, death is the moment of the ether. The body disintegrates and the elements beyond its borders. All that remains is the subtle body of our spirit.
