Fundamental Concept Brainstem

Brainstem

The human brain has three main structural components: the large cerebral hemispheres (part of the brain) dome-shaped (top), cerebellum, and somewhat smaller spherical shape (below right), and brainstem ( center). In the brainstem, the pons stands (the central widening) and spinal medulla oblongata (just below the previous one). The cerebral hemispheres are responsible for intelligence and reasoning. The cerebellum helps to maintain balance and posture. The brainstem is involved in maintaining involuntary functions such as breathing. The thalamus, located between the brainstem and cerebral hemispheres, acts as a relay center for electrical impulses that travel to and from the cerebral cortex.

Brain, part of the central nervous system of vertebrates contained within the skull. Is the control center of the movement, sleep, hunger, thirst, and almost all vital activities necessary for survival. All human emotions like love, hate, fear, anger, joy and sadness, are controlled by the brain. It is also responsible to receive and interpret the many signals that come from the body and the outside.

In the brain to distinguish four distinct but connected parts: the brain or telencephalon, consisting of two almost symmetrical hemispheres, the diencephalon whose main structures are the thalamus and the hypothalamus located in the midline of the brainstem and cerebellum below, the cerebellar hemispheres formed by two smaller ones that are located in the back of the brain and brain stem or trunk, a estructuracentral that gradually becomes the spinal cord and leaving the skull through an opening called the foramen magnum. The term brain stem refers generally to all structures between the brain and spinal cord, ie, the midbrain, pons or pons and medulla oblongata or spinal (medulla oblongata) .
